Peat Moss Products
-
Which peat fraction is right for my plants?
It depends on your crop and growing method. Fine fractions (0–10 mm) are great for seed germination, while coarse grades (10–30 mm) provide better aeration for larger plants. ETEPEK offers custom blends to match your exact requirements.
-
How should I store peat moss products?
Store peat moss in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Keep packaging sealed to maintain moisture balance and prevent contamination. ETEPEK products are packaged to withstand long-term storage and international shipping.
-
What is the difference between white peat and black peat?
White peat is lighter, less decomposed, and ideal for substrates due to its high porosity. Black peat is more decomposed, denser, and suitable for water retention or mulching. ETEPEK offers both types based on customer needs.
-
Why is my peat moss dusty?
Some finer fractions may appear dusty if extremely dry or overhandled. This does not reduce quality but can be managed by lightly moistening the substrate before use. ETEPEK also offers low-dust options for specific applications like animal bedding.
-
The colour of peat seems different—why is that?
Peat colour can vary depending on origin, harvest time, and decomposition level. Lighter brown typically means less decomposed (white peat); darker means more decomposed (black peat). Both types serve different horticultural purposes.
-
Why does my peat moss have a musty smell?
A slightly earthy or musty smell is natural for peat moss, especially if it’s been sealed for a long time. This does not indicate poor quality. Simply aerate the product before use. ETEPEK ensures that all products are stored and packaged to retain freshness.
-
What should I do if I see mould on peat?
Mould is a natural occurrence in organic materials and is generally harmless. It often appears in warm, humid conditions. Simply mix the peat to improve airflow or expose it to light. It doesn’t affect product quality.

-
Is mould in peat moss harmful to plants or people?
No, mould in peat moss is generally not harmful. It’s caused by natural microbial activity when peat is stored in humid or poorly ventilated conditions. The mould is typically superficial and disappears once the peat is mixed. It does not affect peat quality, and many mould species found in peat are even beneficial for plant growth.

-
Can peat moss be reused or composted?
Used peat moss, especially from animal bedding, can be composted into rich organic matter for gardens. ETEPEK supports circular use—“from coop to garden.”

-
Why are there small wood pieces or fibers in the peat?
Natural peat moss can contain small root fibers or remnants of bog vegetation. These do not affect performance. ETEPEK uses modern screening equipment to ensure fractions meet specifications.
-
Are there weeds or pests in your peat moss?
ETEPEK peat moss is naturally sterile when harvested and free from weed seeds or pests. We monitor and test our products regularly to meet international phytosanitary requirements.

Loading norms vary by packaging size and product type. Detailed information is available in our Loading Norms table which you can find in Logistics section.
-
What are your loading standards for truck deliveries?

-
How do I unload peat moss pallets from a shipping container?
Peat moss pallets are typically unloaded using a forklift. To ensure safe and efficient unloading:
- Use proper equipment: A forklift with long forks or a pallet jack (for containers with ramp access) is ideal.
- Check pallet positioning: Pallets are usually arranged in a single or double row. Start with the front row and move carefully toward the back.
- Mind the packaging: ETEPEK pallets are tightly shrink-wrapped for stability, but avoid damaging packaging with forks or tools.
- Maintain balance: Ensure the forklift is balanced and rated for the pallet weight (usually around 250–350 kg per pallet, depending on product type and moisture content).
- Ventilation: If peat was stored in warm climates, let the container air out before unloading to reduce condensation risks.
Payment terms
-
What kind of payment terms does your company usually agree to?
The payment terms we accept usually depend on the delivery method used. For example:
- For EXW, FOB, and FCA: We require 100% prepayment before production begins to ensure a smooth process and timely delivery.
- For CIF and CFR: Payment is typically arranged as a partial prepayment, with the balance settled upon delivery or presentation of shipping documents.
- For DAP: 100% prepayment is required before shipment.
That said, we are open to discussing alternative terms, such as LC (Letter of Credit) or CAD (Cash Against Documents), depending on the size and specifics of the order. Larger orders may provide flexibility in payment arrangements.
-
Can I pay with a debit card?
According to our company policy, payments for orders must be made via bank transfer. Debit card payments are not accepted at this time.
-
Do you accept payments in USD?
Yes, we accept payments in USD. As an international company, we are equipped to handle transactions in multiple currencies, including USD, through our designated bank account with internationally recognized SWIFT code.
Manufacturing
-
Does your company manufacture products made of 100% black peat moss?
We generally avoid selling products made of 100% black peat moss due to its heavy weight, which can lead to exceeding transportation weight limits. However, we are open to discussing potential options if specific requirements arise. Typically, we offer mixed products containing black peat, with no more than 60% added to white or brown peat, to ensure compliance with transportation regulations.
For more information about products containing black peat moss, visit Our black peat moss products section.
-
Do you have your companys' logo bags?
Yes, we currently have logo bags available in 250 L and 70 L volumes. These are universal bags with a general description of peat moss products on the back, provided in multiple languages.
For more precise labeling, we offer small black-and-white stickers, which are included in the price. If different sizes or colorful stickers are required, we can arrange their production; however, this would incur an additional cost as they cannot be provided directly from our warehouse.
-
How to measure the volume of a compressed product correctly?
To measure the volume of compressed peat moss products accurately, the product must first be properly restored.
This involves loosening and fluffing the compressed material according to the recommended procedure. If not done correctly, you may lose a small percentage of the product during the process.
Following proper restoration techniques ensures accurate volume measurements and minimizes product loss.
For more information about manufacturing processes look into our Manufacturing section.
-
Do you agree to manufacture clients' own bag designs?
No, we do not manufacture bags ourselves. We source them from an outsourcing plastic company.
If your company is in need of your own label bags, we can collaborate by providing all the necessary specifications to ensure the bags fit our packing line parameters.
However, the ordering and production of customized bags must be organized by the client directly.
